Women in Action (WIA) is a small community based organization in Arusha, Tanzania. Set up by Elizabeth 'Mama' Mosha in 1993, WIA started out providing homebased care and support to people affected by HIV/AIDS, in particular women and children. The organization has since expanded its services by providing counseling services, small business loans to widows and a tuition free English medium nursery school for vulnerable children. To date, WIA has helped more than 1000 people living with HIV/AIDS and their families.
As WIA is not funded by any major donors, all of our work is supported by the help of dedicated local and international volunteers Mission: To empower Women, Children and Young People in Social Issues and Legal Rights Women in Action requires teachers for vocational training (sewing, bead work, cake decorating),workshops created and facilitated on the stigma of HIV/AIDS and care management for people living with HIV/AIDS as well as Teaching English and Social Education assistance. Volunteers must be of age 18 or above with minimum education of high school.
ÂVolunteers with the following special skills are preferred for the placement:- ÂHealth & Hygiene Training HIV/AIDS Awareness Training Grant Proposals / Fundraising Program Proposal Writting Report Writing / Data Collection General Administration Teacher - English TEFL Certificaiton / Training Handicraft Design Business Management Computers - MS Office Software Sexual & Reproductive Health Training Teacher - Commerce, Finance, Business Volunteers can assist by doing following tasks:- Create and Facilitate workshops, Teach English and Social Education for before and after school programsWomen in Action has many other areas other than teaching that you can assist with.
This includes Business Management and Stragety, Program Development, Newsletter Writting, Proposal Writing, Computer skills basic training for office staff, Sports and Music activities with the children before and after school etc...
